Living Marks with The Shop
This project is dedicated to the vision of Lakshmi Living Arts, a yoga and retreat center in Trumansburg, NY.
With Love, Your Friends, Yogis and Artists in Park City, Ut.
PROCESS
A living mark is an entity in and of itself, made from the energy it describes.
Concept
A master yoga instructor creates a class designed to act as living metaphor for a specified subject.
Artist and yogis participate in a meditation and centering on the subject. This is followed by an asana practice for the yogis and drawing session for the artists. A 1st session is followed by a discussion to inform the 2nd session. 2nd session is followed by concluding discussion and photography of selected drawings.
The intention of the workshop is to provide a rich co-creative experience to all participants, and to create a mark that not only contains all of the energy of the process, but is itself that energy.
Related concepts: co-creation, qualities of art form (spoken, movement, drawing), physical translations, teaching and studentship, participation and observation, value of “how(process)” and “what(drawing),” pinnacle moments.
Subject
Lakshmi is a goddess of beauty and abundance. Lakshmi Living Arts Retreat and Yoga Center in Trumansburg, NY opened in 2015 to teach practices drawn from traditional yoga alongside contemporary techniques such as visualization, affirmation and self-inquiry so that our students can master the art of being full participants in their lives.

Lakshmi Living Arts was seeking a symbol for their newly built center. We used this method to create a mark that both contains their vision and is made from the material of the vision itself.
